Oscar is Eight Months Old

What he's doing:

• Trying to pull up to a standing position
• Crawling backwards, and getting mad when he realizes he's getting further away from what he wants
• Looking up every time an airplane flies by (We live close to an airport)
• Reaching actively for Gabe or I when he wants to be picked up
• Oscar went to his friend's house for the first time yesterday, without Gabe or I (since we were on a hot date!)
• Going swimming
• Trying out the swings at Valley of the Moon Park

Likes:

• Feeding himself finger foods
• Balloons
• Going for walks
• Animals
• Elmo

Dislikes:

• Tofu
• Any delay to his regular meal times

Seven Months Old

Well, here we are! Oscar is seven months old today, and he's doing great. He has been cutting all of his top four front teeth simultaneously, but I think we're almost out of the woods (these are the first "happy baby" pictures I've been able to take in couple of weeks). Also, his hair is starting to come in, and his arms and legs are getting really long! Here's what's new:

What he's doing:

• "Log-rolling" across the living room.
• Grabbing a sippy cup of water and taking a drink by himself.
• Holding on to his feet and kind of rolling around (see top picture).
• Teething. Enough with the teething already.
• Invading the cats' personal space (see next entry).
• Reaching out/diving for things without considering details like, say, gravity.
• Smacking his gums.
• Craning his neck to look around you if you are blocking his view of something more interesting.
• Mostly sleeping through the night... yeah!

Likes:

• Playing with his rubber ducky in the bathtub.
• Closing doors.
• His teething beads. They are our lifeline.
• Going for walks.

Dislikes:

• Gabe or I turning our backs on him, leaving the room, etc.
• The dreaded nose bulb. It brings out some serious rage.

Oscar is Six Months Old

Gabe and I can’t believe we’ve managed to keep Oscar alive for six months. We had a cake to celebrate. So this month feels like a really big one. Oscar has been doing so much. We were talking the other day about whether or not it feels like Oscar has been around for six whole months; we decided that it doesn’t seem like it’s really been that long, but we can’t remember what it was like before him. Here’s an update:

What he’s doing:

• Rolling over both ways
• Eating like a champ
• Drinking water from adult cups (Sippy cups are so last month)
• SITTING UP!
• Growing teeth... two bottom ones, so far!

Likes:

• Doing 180s in his crib
• Eating books
• Dinner theatre (starring Gabe)

Dislikes:

• Shots (I’m sure he’s not alone on that one)
• Gabe or I coming between him and eating board books
